Pinterest - Nailed It!

So, to start off, I am not an artist. But of course I'm willing to try anything at least once! I am attempting to turn our spare bedroom, or "The Den" as I like to refer to it, into a shabby chic office where I can display girly things and wedding tidbits. I found a 2 pack of canvasses on sale for $7 at Hobby Lobby a few months ago, which started this project off with a bang (no hunting puns intended)! Later, I picked up some, gold and grey, acrylic paint and a cheap brush at Micheal's for less than $10-$15.

First, I lined out the chevron pattern using a ruler and pencil. Then I attempted to paint. This was very tedious, so after further research I decided to use blue painter's tape to outline the stripes and then paint in between. This turned out to be a lot quicker, but not as neat. So there are a few spots where the grey paint bled through. Normally this would be grounds for trashing my project, but I've convinced myself that art isn't perfect and the minor mistakes are what make the piece special. So I carried on. After painting 2 coats of grey for the chevron pattern I searched the web for a deer head silhouette that I liked. I then took 2 sheets of printer paper and taped them together so that I would have a piece large enough to freehand the silhouette onto. I simply re-created the head by drawing the general shape onto the 2 pieces of paper in the size I desired and then cut out my drawing. I used painter's tape again to secure the cut-out to the canvass and then used a pencil to lightly trace around the outside. I removed the printer paper and started filling in my outline with gold paint. This was the most tedious part of the project, and again, mistakes were made.Overall, I'm very happy with the outcome and I get to say that this is a Luck Original! I can't wait to complete the whole look of our Den and post a pic!
